Gia Carangis Childhood!
Joeseph Joe Carangi and his wife Kathleen Carangi had their first girl child on January 29 of 1960. The Carengis named their first girl child GIA MARIA CARANGI.
She was special to Carengis being a girl and given special attention from the parents.
Gia Carangi grew up in outskirts of Philadelphia, USA. Her father Joeseph Joe Carangi owned a string of hoagie shops in Philadelphia. Her mother Kathleen Carangi took care of the children Gia Carengi and her elder brother Michael Carangi.
The home life for young Gia Carangi and her brother Michael Carangi was turbulant. Kathleen and Joe Carangi argued constantly.
By 1971, Kathleen moved out, leaving her husband and her children, when Gia Carangy was only 11.

in 1971, Gia Carangi was 11, not 7. It’s Carangi, not Carangy.

I know it’s sad what happened to her and my heart goes out to her friends and family, as a fan I feel that most of the websites, books and movies made about her are half true. I guess we will never know what really went on with Gia or what she was thinking in her last hours. But as Janice Dickenson once said- “Unless you were there you will never truely understand what went on, she was moodly, ignorant and selfish, and most the time never really cared about anything but herself.”
HIV is something that takes 15-25 yrs to develop into the cancer known as AIDS then you wilt and die, there is no cure. Gia was 26 when she died, I believe she was born with the disease and did not know as AIDS was only found in the mid 80’s right about the time she passed away. Hence her being the first woman to die of AIDS

Go back to school, Fiona!
HIV does NOT necessarily take decades to develop.

I disagree with FIONA said. If a person get HIVirus, and that virus at the mutual stage, then AIDS will develop real rapidly and can cause death within few years. Also, her immunity at that time too, if her immunity is weak because of drug use, etc., then the death would occur faster that it would take at an average person. Her life is one of the saddest life I ever read. MAY BUDDA BLESS HER.

Gia’s story is very sad. I am glad her story has been told, because she was a real woman, she would be glad to know her story educated many to the dangers of HIV/AIDS.
She has a family, neices, nephews, brothers, who will love and miss her always.
Be careful of the choices you make…you get one life..and you can’t do this over! Life is NOT a dress rehearsal! RIP Gia
